Make an exam plan that responds to what you miss
Use a small diagnostic, available study sessions and an error log to build an exam plan you can revise without pretending to predict your grade.
A useful task, worked through.
A study timetable can look reassuring while spending equal time on topics you know and topics you avoid. Build your plan around an attempt at the material. AI can help organize that evidence into manageable sessions, but your answers and course requirements should determine what changes next.
Separate topics from confidence
Our fictional learner has four sessions before a practice exam. The topics are fractions, ratios and percentages. On a short diagnostic, they solved two fraction questions, missed both ratio questions and solved one of two percentage questions. Those six questions are clues, not a reliable estimate of exam performance.
Write the topic list from your syllabus and identify any topics the diagnostic did not cover. Add fixed commitments and a realistic session length. Avoid giving the assistant an idealized week with hours you will never have. If a topic is required but untested, mark it “not checked” instead of assuming it is strong.
Give each session a visible finish line
A reasonable authored plan starts with ratios: explain what the two quantities represent, solve two new problems and inspect mistakes. The next session mixes ratio and percentage questions. A third returns to the weakest error pattern. The last samples all three topics under conditions resembling the practice exam.
The plan should say what to produce: two attempted problems and an error note, for example. “Study ratios” is too vague to reveal whether the session worked. Leave some time for checking answers; an hour of unchecked practice can reinforce the same misunderstanding repeatedly.
A request you can adapt
Plan four study sessions from my syllabus, diagnostic results and available time. Give each a small output I can inspect, a no-hint question and a rule for changing the next session after an error. Keep untested topics marked not checked. Do not predict an exam grade.
Change the next session using the error
Suppose the learner correctly sets up a ratio but multiplies incorrectly. That suggests a different next exercise from confusing the order of the quantities. Record both the wrong answer and the reasoning that produced it. Ask the assistant to distinguish a calculation slip from a conceptual error using what you actually wrote.
If the evidence is ambiguous, ask a second short question that would separate those explanations. Do not rebuild the whole timetable after every mistake. Adjust the smallest part of the next session that addresses the recurring problem, then preserve some mixed practice so stronger topics remain in view.
Test the plan with an interruption
For practice, remove the second session from the fictional timetable. A useful revised plan keeps the main diagnostic and review loop, reduces the number of examples and states which coverage was lost. It should not silently compress four full sessions into three or promise that the change will have no consequence.
At the end, attempt a fresh mixed set without the assistant open. Compare errors by type and topic. The purpose is to identify what still needs attention, not to turn a small practice score into a forecast. If a concept remains unclear, bring a specific attempted question to a teacher, tutor or study partner.
Take it further with a changed example
When a plan repeatedly slips, inspect whether it describes activities or evidence of learning. “Read chapter three” may fill an evening without showing which questions you can answer. Replace one vague block with a short attempt, correction and later independent retry.
Keep a small error log with topic, mistake and next test. Do not allocate identical time to every chapter merely because they appear equally large in the contents page. Your next session should respond to the work you can actually inspect, while preserving any course requirements.
For a further exercise, remove one planned session. Choose which practice to keep and which to postpone, explaining the tradeoff. Then imagine the next attempt exposes a new misunderstanding. Revise the following session instead of treating the original schedule as a promise.

Should I ask AI for a grade prediction?
Use actual practice against the relevant criteria to find gaps. A chat’s grade prediction is not reliable evidence of how an examination will be assessed.
