Build a concept map you can explain without the chat
Connect a small set of ideas, label the relationships and test the map with a missing link and a fresh example.

A concept map is useful when its arrows mean something. A page full of impressive terms can look complete while hiding the relationships you need to understand. Use AI to question and organize a small map, then explain its links yourself. The result can be a paper diagram, a slide or a plain-text outline; the thinking matters more than the drawing tool.
Start with a passage small enough to inspect
Use this invented workshop note: “A public library lends books to members. A catalogue describes items and their availability. A reservation puts a member in a queue for an unavailable item. A return makes an item available unless another member has a reservation.” This is a simplified fictional system, not a description of every library.
Choose six concepts: member, book, catalogue, availability, reservation and return. Ask the assistant to suggest relationships only from the note. Keeping the concept count small makes it possible to check every connection. Put information from other sources in a separate extension rather than quietly changing the exercise.
Write a sentence on every arrow
“Catalogue → book” is vague. “Catalogue describes book” gives you a proposition to inspect. “Reservation guarantees immediate availability” conflicts with the note because a reservation joins a queue. Relationship labels expose this difference before a decorative diagram can hide it.
An authored core map is: a member borrows a book; the catalogue describes the book and its availability; a reservation places a member in a queue; a return changes availability subject to an existing reservation. Draw those links on paper first. Let layout follow meaning instead of changing the meaning to fit a symmetrical diagram.
A request you can adapt
Using only this passage, propose up to six concepts and label each connection with a short verb phrase. For every link, identify the supporting sentence. Mark any connection that depends on an assumption. Ask me to explain one relationship before suggesting more nodes.
Make the diagram survive a spoken explanation
Cover the original passage and explain why a returned book might still be unavailable to someone who walks in. The relevant relationship is the reservation queue. If your map cannot express that condition, add the smallest label or note that makes it visible.
Have the assistant ask a question about a relationship you find difficult. Keep your answer in your own words. A correction should identify the missing condition, not replace the whole map with a more sophisticated version that you cannot explain.
Find links that sound right but say little
Words such as “affects,” “involves” and “relates to” are prompts to investigate. Sometimes they are the most accurate available description, but often they conceal uncertainty about the direction or mechanism. Replace one with a precise sentence and inspect whether the source supports it.
If two sources use different definitions, keep their maps separate until you understand the disagreement. Do not average the wording into a compromise that neither source states. Note the source and page beside the disputed connection.
Remove a link and rebuild it
For a fresh exercise, erase the connection between returns and availability. Reconstruct it from memory, then check the passage. Next, imagine the queue is empty and explain what changes. The altered condition tests more than recognition of the original diagram.
Keep the final map with a short note: the relationship I first missed, the evidence that corrected it, and the next question. Return later and draw the core structure again without looking. Use the gaps to choose your next practice session.
