Anthropic, the maker of Claude, is committing 5% of its shares, subject to stockholder approval, to a new Public Benefit Fund. The board can add 2% more for every 50% rise in the company’s value above a set baseline. The fund can give large donations to nonprofits or pay out directly to groups of people, with the effects of AI on jobs named as one example. Its shares cannot be used for lobbying or political donations. Anthropic says it will share how the fund is governed in the coming months.

Why it matters to you: As AI changes work, one question is who shares in the money it makes. This is one of the first big pledges by an AI lab to direct part of its value toward people affected.
