On the Sources podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was asked whether OpenAI will build a humanoid robot and answered, “We will.” He said a human shape makes sense because the world is designed for people, and that the AI “brain” matters more than the body. In September he told Fortune he expects “a cool demo in 2027”, with robots in public a few years after that. OpenAI has not shown the robot or announced a price or date, and its careers page lists 27 robotics jobs.
Why it matters to you: The big AI labs are moving from screens into the physical world. Robots that can work in homes, shops and warehouses would change many hands-on jobs, not just office work.
