Use AI for creative directions, then make a real choice
Explore genuinely different ideas for a campaign, story, or design using constraints and explicit tradeoffs.
Five synonyms for the same idea are still one idea.
Vary the underlying approach
If you request five catchy slogans, the answers may all share the same premise. Ask for different approaches instead: a practical demonstration, a personal story, a surprising question, and a visual explanation. For each, request the intended audience reaction and a limitation. This makes the options easier to compare and helps reveal whether they are actually distinct.
Give the work a real constraint
A community event with no photography budget needs a direction that can be made with simple assets. A story told in 500 words needs a different structure from a series. Constraints create useful choices. State what the audience already knows, what they should do afterward, and what would feel inappropriate. Avoid measuring a concept only by how impressive its description sounds.
Select before polishing
Choose a direction using two or three criteria, such as clarity, feasibility, and fit with the audience. A clever concept that needs resources you do not have may lose to a simpler one. Keep the rejected directions briefly so you remember why you chose. Then develop the selected idea into a small sample, such as one poster layout or one scene, before building the whole thing.
Bring human taste back into the loop
The assistant can propose and critique, but it does not know how your actual audience will react. Show a sample to a few relevant people if possible. Ask what they think it is about and what action they would take. Their confusion is useful evidence. Revise based on what they understood rather than asking whether they generally “like” it.
A worked example

Vague starting point: Give me ten amazing campaign ideas.
A more useful brief
We need more volunteers for a Saturday repair cafe. Propose four distinct approaches: practical benefit, community story, curiosity, and skills sharing. For each, give one sample headline, the likely audience, a simple visual, and one drawback. We can print one poster and use existing photos only.
Why this helps: The request asks for different premises and makes feasibility part of the idea.
Your turn
Choose one project and ask for three approaches with different premises. Score each on audience fit and feasibility before editing any wording.

A quick check
When should you polish a headline?
- Before deciding what the campaign is trying to say
- After choosing a direction that fits the audience and constraints
- Only after generating 100 options
Answer: After choosing a direction that fits the audience and constraints
First choose the idea. Polishing an unsuitable direction wastes effort.
